Say I Love You with flowers, chocolates, wine, Audrey and Avatar

Mixtapes and sock bunnies are all very well, but sometimes it’s nice to get a little special something that isn’t homemade for Valentine’s Day. Here are a few suggestions:

*A bouquet of flowers, delivered right to your door. Interflora have a gorgeous selection, including this beautiful Dramatic Dozen rose arrangement (£39.99), and the good news is they’re delivering on Sunday.

*A Bonterra & Green and Black’s gift pack, including a bottle of delicious Bonterra Rosé wine and 12 adorable mini bars of G&B (£15, available from Ocado) ideal for um... sharing *cough*.

*A romantic DVD – Play.com have a brilliant selection, including the classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s (£4.99), so you can indulge your inner Hepburn.

*A glamorous box of chocolates – especially Lindt’s Amour Heart Box of luxurious Lindor truffles (£4.99, available from Sainsbury's).

And for him, well most men I know would be very happy with a copy of James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game (£17.99-£24.99, available on Wii, PS3 or Xbox360, from Play.com). Or failing that a sock bunny.

What will you be getting your loved one for Valentine’s?

Where's your favourite romantic place in the world?

With Valentine's Day less than a week away, the National Trust have put together a list of some of the most romantic places in Britain. They include the beautiful Giant's Causeway and Lyme Park, famous as the setting for that lake scene from Pride and Prejudice.

It's got me thinking about my own favourite romantic places. In Britain I'd probably say St Ives. Further afield - well the beaches of the Caribbean are of course incredibly romantic, ditto California, but Kualoa Ranch in Hawaii, the backdrop for Lost, is one of the most breathtaking places I've been to, and it's no surprise that so many couples choose to get married there. It's simply stunning, particularly at sunset.

My ultimate romantic place though has to be Villa del Balbianello on Lake Como. It was used to great effect in Casino Royale and um.. Star Wars Episode II and it's almost laughably romantic, with idyllic terraces everywhere offering incredible vistas of the Lake.

Where are your favourite romantic places? I'd love to know.

Disney's Princess and the Frog - review, special events and competition!

Back in December I gave you a sneaky peek at Disney's The Princess and the Frog - and the good news is it opens today!

Set in New Orleans in the 20s, The Princess and the Frog gives a new spin on an old classic. It's the story of Tiana, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who dreams of owning her own restaurant. Unfortunately she gets mixed up with the handsome but rather cocky Prince Naveen and some voodoo magic which ends up turning both her and the prince into frogs! It's a wonderful, enchanting film, featuring a brilliant jazz-inspired soundtrack, instantly memorable songs and a return to 2D hand drawn animation. I guarantee the whole family will love it.

And make sure you pop along to your nearest Disney Store on Saturday mornings as they'll be hosting a whole range of special themed FREE events at their Princess and the Frog: Royal Academy, including animation, storytelling and etiquette lessons, plus extra events at half-term!

COMPETITION:
To celebrate the movie's release, we're giving you the chance to win an amazing Princess and the Frog prize pack. The prize includes a Kissing Naveen plush toy, a Louis plush toy, a Nintendo DS game, a Wii game, a Princess Tiana fancy dress costume, a fortune card game, a notebook, CD soundtrack, backpack, watch and sticker set.

How to enter: All you have to do is send the answer to the following question from your KidStart registered email address to competitions@kidstart.co.uk including your name, daytime telephone number, address by 17 February. If you are not a KidStart member click here to join.

Breastfeeding v Bottlefeeding - whose business is it anyway?

Recently mummy blogger Crafty Creative asked if there is a civil war among mums when it comes to the breast v bottle debate. The responses proved she's probably right.

Personally I've never understood why some women feel they have the right to tell others how to feed their babies. Some (not all) mums who breastfeed successfully seem to be under the impression that those who don't have failed in some way because they didn't have the right support or information (how patronising) while those that bottlefeed become defensive about their decision.

My feeling is that as long as a child isn't at risk in any way, no one has the right to tell another mum how to feed their baby. And actually that goes for every other decision they make, too. Help, support, offer advice but for goodness' sake don't preach, belittle, condemn or make the mum feel inadequate in some way. Breast is (probably) best for baby but ONLY if it's right for you. If you find it difficult, either physically or emotionally, your baby will sense it and that won't be good for either of you.

I'd love to hear your views - does becoming a mum give you the right to tell other mums (even strangers!) how to feed their babies? And meanwhile, to read some personal experiences of breast and bottle feeding, click here.

Let's hope it's not a quickie divorce!

And just when you think she couldn't possibly surprise you any more, Katie Price goes and marries Alex Reid in Las Vegas.

The wedding was inevitable of course - with Alex as the winner of CBB7 his star is definitely on the rise, and for those of us who watched it he came across really well - providing some of the funniest moments and proving there was more to him than muscle.

As ever though, you have to wonder what effect this will have on the kids. They've known Alex for seven months, now he's their stepdad.

For their sakes, let's hope it's not a quickie divorce.

Last night was the first inaugural meeting of the online book group held by the creative writing group I've joined. I hadn't actually got round to reading the book but it was fun to get online and 'talk' with other members - even if we were slightly off topic.

It's a fantastic initiative which encourages people of all ages to help preserve the art of storytelling.  To celebrate, KidStart have teamed up with fantastic online children's book specialists BFC Direct to offer members a FREE children's book with any order over £10. Simply put the book into your online shopping basket and use the voucher code below (remember you must shop through KidStart to get the free book):

Wear it like Beckham

I don’t have much in common with Victoria Beckham, apart from bunions, and other than being a mum, but like her I do love trench coats, which is just as well because they’re one of the key looks this spring. Stylish and brilliant for slipping on to do the school run, going to the office or, if you're VB, dodging the paparazzi.

The difference between a trench and a mac, in case you’re wondering, is that trench coats tend to be more military in style, with epaulettes and flaps and deep pockets. M&S have a great selection – here are two of the best:

Autograph Essentials Double Breasted Trench Coat with belt (£69)

Water Repellent Zip Fastening Trench Coat (£79)

The MMR debate: 'To look for blame is to look back'

The MMR debate continued to dominate headlines this week. I've shared my thoughts before here, but I don't have direct personal experience of autism. So I've asked the wonderful Kathryn Brown, aka Crystal Jigsaw and mum to 10-year-old Amy (right), to write today's guest post:

'When we take our babies to the clinic to have their MMR jabs, there are so many questions we need to be answered, so many doubts about whether we are doing the right thing, especially when the time comes that we have to hold our little ones legs in order to watch someone inflict pain on their tiny limbs.  But since the MMR was offered, there has been a continuous stigma that this inoculation led to children developing autism, a lifelong and incurable condition which affects approximately half a million people in the UK. Many parents declined the MMR jab for their child, believing that they were indeed risking their child developing autism.  This has since been proved inconclusive however, even though the doubt has been planted.

As a parent of a child who was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, having already received the inoculation, I wondered if I had done the right thing.   But the link between MMR and autism does not exist.

When a diagnosis is reached about your child’s condition, it is normal for a parent to want to find blame; to look around and search for the reason why.  I went through this stage, becoming desperate to understand the confusion which, if I had allowed, would have turned into anger, to later become a search for the scapegoat.  I spoke to doctors, health visitors, specialists, autism support groups, all of which reassured me that the MMR vaccine was simply that; a scapegoat.

If new parents hear from a medical professional that there is a chance their child will develop autism should they have the MMR, it is instinctive that they will feel apprehensive, wanting to question these claims.  Children have lived with autism for many years even without diagnosis and long before the MMR vaccine was introduced in the 1970’s.  Experts in the field of autism, still today, cannot confirm a valid reason why a child may be on the autism spectrum; be it hereditary or perhaps because of a brain injury in early childhood, it is, as yet, unknown.  As parents, we deserve the right to choose what is best for our children; we also deserve an explanation when suspicions arise, in view of lack of information given, to enable the safety and security we need to feel for our child.

Autism needs a committed advocate to enable the child to move on.  To look for blame is to look back.  Our children are in front of us, they await our assistance, rely on our continuity to support their needs.  I stopped being desperate when I realised my daughter’s condition would never go away.  She is healthy, active, and my future.'

What's your favourite love song - and do couples need to like the same music?

Last year one of my friend's husbands booked tickets for them to go and see a band in concert as a surprise. It was a band she had hardly heard of and didn't particularly like - they had one hit in the mid-90s. 'Why didn't he ask me first?' she told me. In the end, she refused to go and he ended up going with a mate. Not surprisingly, perhaps, they've been going through a bit of a rocky patch recently.

With Valentine's Day approaching fast, there are numerous love songs CDs on offer. So it got me thinking. What's your favourite love song? And does it matter if couples don't like the same music? How important is music to a relationship? I'd love to know what you think.

Meanwhile, here's one of my favourite love songs - probably the only thing I have in common with Gwyneth Paltrow, who it was written for. Enjoy.
