You'll be glad to hear that after a 45 minute wait (even with the ESTA you still have to queue AND fill in the visa waiver forms) we finally made it through customs and then we were in Chicago.

And it was definitely our kinda town. Stunning architecture, spotlessly clean, and surrounded by beautiful Lake Michigan, with tons to keep all ages entertained, including the science museum and oceanarium. As you can tell from this pic (right), they don't call it the Windy City for nothing.

Top of our list of Things To Do was a trip up the Willis Tower. (As you know I don't like heights, but everyone else seemed to find the prospect of standing on a glass ledge 103 floors up far too good an opportunity to miss.)

I got my own back though with an educational visit to the Art Institute and LOTS of window shopping (the exchange rate isn't brilliant at the moment). We also went on the Chicago Film Tour of some of the city's most famous movie locations including The Dark Knight and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which proved a big hit.
If you're planning a city break, Virgin Holidays have some great deals to Chicago - and if you book through KidStart, you'll earn money back for your kids. My kinda deal. You can find out more about Chicago at http://www.gochicago.com/
