On Friday night the Man of the House took No 1 Son and some of his friends to see Muse live at the 02 (in case you haven't heard of them, Muse are a band).
Meanwhile on Saturday night my niece, Harriet, 13, went to a party. She had to borrow a friend's little black dress, she told me with a straight face, 'because they've seen me in all my clothes'.
And to be honest I can't believe I've just written those two sentences, because in my head they are both still two small children, wanting to play, or cuddles. Where has the time gone?
When older people used to say to me 'they grow up so quickly' I would smile politely and think 'yeah, sure', because when you're coping with endless nappy changes, sleepless nights or toddler tantrums it's hard to envisage an era where your kids will be maturing so fast you feel as though time is running away from you.
Fortunately my nephew, Ben, is still at the Spongebob Squarepants-watching stage. But this morning I took No 1 Son's first babygro, so soft and small, out of the drawer where it's kept. How did he ever fit into it? Now he's taller than me, his spontaneous hugs are fewer, and it won't be long before he's bringing home girlfriends and driving a car.
Those old people were right. Children really do grow up so quickly, and you should enjoy every precious moment. Yes, even the temper tantrums.
