You are now a member and will accumulate KidStart Savings on your eligible purchases.

You can complete the other parts of the member's profile information at a later stage, including:

If you are expecting, you can either acculumate your savings in your KidStart account until the child is born; or register yourself as the child until you have the child's details. KidStart Savings can also be donated to a school of your choice or to one of a number of children's charities.

Once registered as a member, you can sign in through the KidStart website by using the login at the top right hand corner of the webpage. Back to top...

  • What is a Kiddybank?

A Kiddybank is KidStart's name for your account. When you make an eligible purchase, KidStart automatically adds the appropriate KidStart Savings to your Kiddybank. If you have registered children, a school or charities against your account, the balance will automatically flow into your Kiddybank once KidStart has received the money from the retailer.

For Example: £100 spent at Mothercare online through KidStart will earn £5 in KidStart savings. We normally update the transaction records the day after your purchase, so you will see £5 savings listed in the pending transactions in your Kiddybank the following day (some retailers take longer).

When KidStart is paid by the retailer,(typically 2-3 months later, sometimes sooner, sometimes not) the transaction will moved from pending to cleared.

Earning KidStart Savings

  • How do I earn KidStart Savings?

KidStart savings are earned on eligible purchases made at retailers listed on KidStart's shopping section. Each retailer has their own information page and this contains information on what savings are available, which transactions are eligible and how transactions are tracked by KidStart

We track transactions in a variety of ways. The main ones are as follows:

    1. For almost all online purchases, you must click the 'click to shop' button next to the retailer. We send a unique code to the retailer when you click this button which allows the retailer to report any purchases you make back to us. Note: In these cases if you go to the retailers website directly without clicking on the KidStart link then your purchases will not be recorded.
    2. For a few retailers, we track your purchases using a KidStart registered credit or debit card. You can earn KidStart Savings at these retailers online and/or in store when you use your registered cards. These retailers have a card picture on their retailer information page. Click here to view retailers that offer KidStart Savings in the High Street.
To register your cards, simply register your existing cards in the Registered Cards tab in the My Profile section and wait 48 hours before using them.
    3. For a few retailers it is necessary to quote a reference number (either over the phone or online) in order to obtain your KidStart Savings. This will be made clear on the information page for the retailer.

  • What do the red and green icons mean?

The icons in the shopping section of the website give you information about the different retailers. You can see what each mean by holding your mouse over the icon.

  • How do I know if a transaction has been registered?

We will automatically know when you are due KidStart Savings when:

    1. You shop online via a link on this website. The retailer reports to us the information on the purchase and this is automatically added to your account.
    2. A participating card partner notifies us that you have paid with a card you have previously registered with us.

You will typically see the transaction shown against your account the day after the purchase, however some retailers take longer to report to us so please wait 10 days before querying any missing transactions. If transactions at a particular retailer are slow to appear, we will note this on the retailer page in the shopping section.

  • How do I register my credit cards?

You can register your cards in the Registered Cards tab in My Profile. We only ask for the card number and expiry date. We never ask for the 3 digit card security (also known as CCV) code.

  • Which payment cards can I register?

You can register any Visa, MasterCard or Maestro cards. We allow you to register up to 10 cards although you must have permission from the cardholder to register a card.

Our system rejects purchases made by duplicate cards. Occasionally secondary cards (ie: those where there are two cards issued on the same credit card account) have the same number as the primary card. In this case, please make sure that you only register the 16 digit number once with KidStart. Both cards can then be used to make purchases.

  • Can I register American Express or Diners Club?

Not at this time. We identify your offline spending through banks' card settlement systems and will initially only be able to do this for cards on the Visa or Mastercard networks.

  • What happens if I return goods and receive a refund?

The KidStart Savings you receive for the original transaction will be cancelled.

  • How do I keep track of my account?

You can use the "My Kiddybank" section to monitor your account balances and check on purchases made.

  • Why are some transactions shown as pending?

Recent purchases are shown as pending to allow for returns and to give time for the retailer to pay KidStart the KidStart Savings. This normally takes between 2 and 3 months depending upon the retailer and type of purchase. Some retailers take longer to pay us, and we try to show this on the retailer information page.

  • Do my KidStart Savings expire?

No. Unlike many other loyalty programmes, KidStart Savings do not expire.

  • Can KidStart Savings rates change?

KidStart strives to get the maximum KidStart Savings for its members' children. However there are circumstances where rates may change from that previously advertised. However you will always receive the rate that was advertised at the time that you made the purchase.

  • What are special offers?

Retailers occasionally run special offers such as free delivery or discounted prices. You can see what offers are available by clicking on the information button next to the retailer in the shopping section of the website. Special offers are available to members IN ADDITION to Kidstart Savings.

Please note that we endevour to keep this information up to date, but occassionally retailers may change offers without notifying us, so please check what the retailer is actually offering.

Understanding My Kiddybank Statement

  • How do I see the balance in my Kiddybank?

Your Kiddybank statement can be viewed at the My Kiddybank section of the members website. Details of recent transactions can also be seen in the same section by clicking on the Transaction Details tab.

  • What do the different columns and rows in My Kiddybank statement mean?

The Kiddybank statement shows the balance in your Kiddybank split into various different parts. The columns show you how much is in your Kiddybank, how much has been transferred out to date, and how much has been saved for your children or other recipients by you and your friends and family. The transferred out amount includes both transfers out to linked savings accounts as well as transfers to schools, charities and children of other members for whom you have agreed to save. The rows in the statement show the totals split by the children you are saving for. "Your children" are the children you have registered personally. "Others" are children of other members that you have been invited and agreed to save for or else charities or schools.

  • Why is there an unallocated amount?

There are several reasons why KidStart Savings may be shown as unallocated:

    1. You have not set-up any children within your Kiddybank.
    2. A recent purchase has not yet been allocated by the system. This normally happens at the start of each working day.
    3. Depending on the number of children you have set-up, not all KidStart Savings can be exactly divided. For example if you had 3 children and were saving evenly between them, only savings that were exactly divisible by 3 can be completely allocated.

  • What is shown in the Transaction History?

The Transaction History shows all of your purchases that are pending (ie: are waiting payment from the retailer), as well as those that have been cleared. The transferred out to child savings shows all the recent transfers out of your Kiddybank either to a linked savings account or to another member's child that you are saving for.

If your KidStart Savings is below £2.00, then we will close the account without transferring the balance.

  • What is a dormant account?

If there has been no activity (ie: no transactions or logins) on an account for a period of 12 months, your account may be considered dormant and you will need to email us to reactivate the account. We will periodically close dormant accounts in which case we will email your registered email to let you know. If we hear nothing back from you at this stage, we will close the account and your KidStart savings will be lost.

Transferring KidStart Savings into a linked savings account

  • How do I link my child's CTF / savings account?

After you have added a child, you can link a savings account by clicking on "link a savings account" next to the child's name in the Children tab in My Profile.

KidStart can link to any Child Trust Fund account or any savings account that accepts electronic cash payments. These include bank accounts and most Building Society accounts. If you have a savings plan for your child which does not accept electronic payments (eg: a long term savings bond) then we would suggest you link your own bank account and transfer the money with your existing payments.

THERE IS NO NEED TO SET UP A NEW ACCOUNT - you can always use your own bank account to receive savings if you would like.

  • What if I don't have a savings account for my child?

Don't worry, you can still save using KidStart. You can use your own bank account to receive savings if you would like.

  • When do KidStart Savings get transferred into savings account?

We automatically deposit money into the savings account that you have chosen. KidStart checks the balance of each child's Kiddybank at the end of the month, and if the balance exceeds the minimum deposit level, the balance is transferred at the start of the following month. This may take a few days to show in your account, as we wait for confirmation from the bank that there were no problems with your bank account details. KidStart's minimum deposit level is normally £10, but some Child Trust Funds have higher minimum deposits.

We'll email you to confirm that we've updated your Kiddybank to reflect the transfer out - or in the rare instances when payments are returned, we'll email you asking you to check your linked account details.

  • How can I check that the transfer has been made?

You can see this in the Transfer History tab in the My Kiddybank section.

  • How can I check the balance on my child's savings account?

KidStart does not have access to this information, but you should receive a regular statement from the company who manages your child's savings account. Please get in touch with them directly

  • Can I get money back from my child's savings account?

Once KidStart has transferred the KidStart Savings to the linked savings account, KidStart cannot get the money back. You will need to talk to the company that manages your child's savings account directly but in the case of CTFs, deposits once made cannot be reversed.
