Most kids (and a fair few adults) I know are obsessed by magic. Cards, coins, ropes and hoops, boxes and rabbits in hats, they just cant get enough. If, like me, you have a junior Derren Brown in your house, here are some great ways to get them started on the road to illusion mastery:<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n

1.<\/strong> Book them on a magic workshop<\/b>:\u00a0 Davenports, one of the most established specialist magic shops in London offers a children\u2019s magic workshop for \u00a330. the next available date is September 6th. Click here for more details<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

2.<\/strong> Get some good books:<\/b> Karl Fulves’ Easy to Do Magic Tricks for Children<\/strong> contains 63 clear illustrations guiding kids through basics such as elastic Lock, Mystic Spinner and The Great Escape.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

3.<\/strong> Also try Magic Tricks to Make and Do<\/b> by Ben Denne – another goody for kids starting out. \u00a0It details 24 how-to magic tricks including disappearing coins and shrinking wands. The book comes with over 180 stickers so your kids can decorate their magic props.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

4.<\/strong> Try a magician’s starter kit<\/b> – Melissa and Doug\u2019s Deluxe Magic set<\/strong> is perfect for little magicians aged 8 and over. \u00a0It contains props and detailed instructions for 10 classic tricks such as Secret Silks and Magic Number prediction. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

5.<\/strong> Buy a trick deck<\/b> – David Blaine\u2019s range of specialist card decks are great tools for your budding trickster to master. This Svengali deck<\/a> is a magicians\u2019 must-have allowing you to instantly change an entire deck in front of the audience’s eyes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

6.<\/strong> Check out YouTube<\/b> and sites such as Good Tricks<\/a> for fantastic how-to videos on magic classics. It takes patience and practice, practice, practice, but learning by video is how a lot of the top magicians teach themselves too.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

7.<\/strong> If you are based in the south, arrange a visit to the Magic Circle<\/strong><\/a>, the world\u2019s premier magical society in London\u2019s Euston where you can visit their archives or join them on their magic summer fun days, suitable for aged 7 plus. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

8.<\/strong> Get the right equipment!<\/b> Most magicians swear by Bicycle cards<\/a> so do\u00a0s<\/span>tock up! Your budding Paul Zenon will be burning through a lot of cards on the way to the perfect double lift!<\/span><\/p>\r\n

9. Do check out \u00a0the\u00a0Magic Tricks for Kids<\/a><\/b> website and sign up to receive a new trick each week. Its free to subscribe. There is also a brilliant Magic Tricks for Kids You Tube web magic school.<\/p>\r\n
