The BBC recently reported about the latest research on student debt figures which suggests that the new graduates in England face average debt levels of more than a third of the average mortgage.<\/h2>\r\nThe Money Charity research found that when this year’s graduates\u00a0start paying back their maintenance and tuition loans they will owe at least \u00a341,000.<\/strong> Furthermore,\u00a0the researchers say the average outstanding mortgage debt is \u00a3117,162, while the government says the student loans system is fair and sustainable and that higher education boosts employability and earnings.\r\n

Rising Rents<\/h3>\r\nThe charity said that rising maintenance loans and the higher tuition fees of \u00a39,000 a year for students who started their degrees in 2012 or later have led to a hike in debt.\r\n\r\nThe first students on the higher fees graduated last summer and, under the current rules, those earning more than \u00a321,000 began paying back their loans in April.\r\n\r\nIn another study the charity found that average yearly rents outside London had grown by \u00a3277 in a year between 2014 and 2015, with maintenance loans and grants failing to keep pace.\r\n\r\nMeanwhile, university maintenance grants for lower income students in England Wales are due to be scrapped from next month.\r\n
