{"id":1946,"date":"2011-01-02T08:32:00","date_gmt":"2011-01-02T08:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/79.170.44.80\/livingwithkids.co.uk\/is-this-really-the-right-way-for-a-soap-to-deal-with-cot-death\/"},"modified":"2018-02-20T13:48:35","modified_gmt":"2018-02-20T13:48:35","slug":"is-this-really-the-right-way-for-a-soap-to-deal-with-cot-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kidstart.co.uk\/blog\/is-this-really-the-right-way-for-a-soap-to-deal-with-cot-death\/","title":{"rendered":"Is this really the right way for a soap to deal with cot death?"},"content":{"rendered":"All new mums know what it\u2019s like to worry about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.childalert.co.uk\/article.php?articles_id=295\">cot death<\/a>; to check your baby\u2019s breathing and to make sure they\u2019re OK; to feel their neck and chest and make sure they\u2019re not too hot or too cold; to keep the baby monitor close at hand.\r\n\r\nUnfortunately, in my opinion <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/eastenders\/\">EastEnders<\/a>\u00a0has taken a sensitive and important\u00a0issue and turned it into farce.\r\n\r\nIt was bad enough that Ronnie didn\u2019t call an ambulance when she realised her baby wasn\u2019t breathing. But the fact that within about five minutes (fast, even in soapland) she\u2019d stolen another baby, placing her own lifeless child in the poor mite\u2019s cot, was a step too far, I think.\r\n\r\nOK, it\u2019s not real life. But the fact is that millions of people watch EastEnders and instead of seizing the opportunity to address the trauma of cot death, to be responsible and educate, the producers are insulting our intelligence.
