{"id":3584,"date":"2011-10-13T10:01:29","date_gmt":"2011-10-13T09:01:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/79.170.44.80\/livingwithkids.co.uk\/?p=3584"},"modified":"2018-02-20T12:14:12","modified_gmt":"2018-02-20T12:14:12","slug":"much-needed-support-for-first-time-parents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kidstart.co.uk\/blog\/much-needed-support-for-first-time-parents\/","title":{"rendered":"Much-needed Support for First-Time Parents"},"content":{"rendered":"Next week is <strong>National Parenting Week<\/strong> and to coincide with it a new initiative to strengthen family relationships and reduce separation rates among first-time parents is being launched by family charity <a href=\"http:\/\/www.careforthefamily.org.uk\/\">Care for the Family.<\/a>\r\n\r\nThe \u2018Let\u2019s Stick Together\u2019 campaign will be the UK\u2019s first high access national programme of preventative relationship education. It aims to reduce the number of family breakdowns by reaching new parents in the early years of family life when most breakdowns occur. The sessions will teach key relationship-building principles and will be delivered to participants free of charge via postnatal clinics, using a national network of trained volunteers.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.livingwithkids.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Parents-baby.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3585\" title=\"Parents-baby\" src=\"http:\/\/www.livingwithkids.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Parents-baby-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>With more than <strong>50% of parents who separate doing so within three years of having a baby<\/strong> I\u2019ve always wondered why there isn\u2019t more emphasis on relationship education in the UK. SRE (sex and relationship education) in schools seem to regularly forget the relationship part of the equation. Meaning that many teens grow up knowing about contraception but rarely how to manage a relationship.\r\n\r\nOne friend tells me that in many European countries all couples have to have relationship counselling before getting married. This enables them to look at their expectations, good and bad habits to see whether they are in conflict <strong>before<\/strong> getting married. It\u2019s such a great idea I don\u2019t know why they don\u2019t do it over here. Which is why I\u2019m keeping my fingers crossed that the programme, which is running pilot schemes across the UK, will be successful and get some funding so it can be rolled out across the whole of the UK.\r\n\r\nWhat do you think would help first time parents stick together?
