{"id":8950,"date":"2018-02-13T03:02:58","date_gmt":"2018-02-13T03:02:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kidstart.co.uk\/blog\/?p=8950"},"modified":"2018-05-16T11:13:18","modified_gmt":"2018-05-16T10:13:18","slug":"heathy-breakfasts-for-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kidstart.co.uk\/blog\/heathy-breakfasts-for-kids\/","title":{"rendered":"Healthy Breakfasts for Kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Some mornings, in the chaos of trying to find lost shoes and homework, I struggle to ensure that my children have had a nutritious breakfast before heading out the door.<\/h3>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I decided that this school year it will be different, so I asked <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a title=\"Sally Nash website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.absorbharmony.com \" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Nutritional Therapist Sally Nash<\/span><\/a><\/span> for some inspiration on easy, wholesome breakfast plans that will keep the whole family\u2019s energy levels and brains going until lunchtime.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sally explains that<strong> the sugary breakfast cereals we so often rely on give the body a short burst of carbohydrate<\/strong>. What would benefit our kids more are slower release forms of carbohydrates and breakfasts that incorporate protein. She recommends <strong>oats in porridge<\/strong> form with added<strong> fruit<\/strong> and <strong>yoghurt<\/strong>. A sprinkle of nuts and seeds on top provides protein and essential fatty acids for those busy brains.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In terms of pre-packaged cereals, Sally likes Lizi\u2019s Granola or an excellent cereal from BEAR called Alphabites which are <strong>wholegrain multigrain cereal<\/strong> letter shapes sweetened with coconut nectar rather than refined sugar. Sally explains that <strong>coconut nectar<\/strong> helps maintain energy levels for longer and kids love spelling out naughty words with their cereal as an added bonus!<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eggs are also an excellent breakfast option as they are a fantastic source of protein. Try a <strong>dippy egg served with one slice of wholemeal or rye toast soldiers<\/strong>. If you have time, an omelette made with tiny chopped up vegetables such as peppers, onions, tomatoes and fresh herbs are very healthy, and you can add a bit of cheese for added flavour and calcium.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pancakes and buckwheat pancakes are also a great start to the day for children according to Sally. Buckwheat is a non-gluten grain derived from rhubarb. <strong>Pancakes<\/strong> served with <strong>fresh berries<\/strong>, a sprinkling of <strong>nuts<\/strong>, a dollop of <strong>natural yoghurt<\/strong> and perhaps a dash of <strong>coconut<\/strong>, <strong>agave nectar<\/strong> or<strong> honey<\/strong> will sweeten them up perfectly. If you make a bunch of pancakes on a Sunday night for example, they freeze well and you can pop them in the toaster to defrost and serve during the week.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For time efficient healthy breakfasts, <strong>smoothies<\/strong> are an excellent option and kids enjoy making them. Put some fresh fruit such as <strong>bananas<\/strong>, <strong>mixed berries<\/strong> and so forth into a blender. Add some unsweetened <strong>coconut water<\/strong>, <strong>chia seeds<\/strong> for protein and perhaps a couple of tablespoonfuls of <strong>natural yoghurt<\/strong>, then blend and serve.
