Are you consumer confident – or are you still feeling the pinch?

According to reports this morning, consumer confidence is returning, with more of us shopping for big purchases again.

I really hope this is true. But I keep hearing about families who are still finding it pretty hard going. I know a few who haven’t had a holiday at all this year, and who rarely buy anything for themselves any more, shopping only for their kids.

So I’d love to know what you think. Are you a confident about the economy – or are you still feeling the pinch?

I still find it a little tight and buy clothes and bigger purchases for my little boy whilst mummy slums it in her old clothes. Little man always looks dapper 🙂 I would much rather go without myself any day. Also now take pack up to work as saves me and hubbie around £20 per week or £1000 a year!!!

I haven’t felt any pinch as such as we’re both still employed (thank goodness) but I do have a constant, nagging worry at the back of my mind about the value of our flat and whether we’ll ever be able to afford to move into a nice house in an area with good schools for my daughter. She’s not even 1 yet but I think about it a lot.

I’m still saving at the moment. I’d definitely say I’m being more focussed with money, not penny pinching but getting the best bang for my buck in terms of only buying the things that are most important to the family (which seems to be laptops and holidays at the moment)

I don’t think it does us any harm to feel the pinch now and then, makes us appreciate what we have. But I am lucky and I make no bones about it; I’m not flushed but I know that if I can’t afford something, I won’t have it. My business felt the pinch last year but we got by. CJ xx

Definitely feeling the pinch here. We moved house last November and found that many banks were reluctant to give us a mortgage despite having an ok deposit. When one did it was at a fairly high rate. I’m also at the end of my maternity leave so we’re low on funds. We’ve had to go without things like holidays, saved for new furniture and our house isn’t really decorated yet but we’re lucky enough to still be employed, have a home and two healthy children.
