My (slightly unsuitable) Mum Crush

Now unless you've been living in an isolation tank for the past few months, you will surely have heard the name Robert Pattinson. Until last weekend, I couldn't really see what all the fuss was about, in fact I thought it was just a typical teen craze. But then I watched Twilight on Sky  and suddenly it's become very clear to me, because Robert Pattinson is completely gorgeous.

  Robert Pattinson - Twilight

At first I thought it was just his character, the vampire Edward Cullen. But then I saw him being interviewed on GMTV , and even with his usual (British) accent and colour in his cheeks he's still lovely. (And OK, he's 23, but I'm not really old enough to be his mother.) I couldn't even really remember him in Harry Potter, but now he's all grown up.

And it seems I'm not the only one with a Slightly Unsuitable Mum Crush. My friend Vicky is crazy about Jedward. One of my Mummy Blogger friends adores the Jonas Brothers. So far I haven't come across anyone who likes Zac Efron, but it is, I imagine, only a matter of time.

I'm not sure where these crushes come from, and I'm sure a psychologist would have a field day. Usually the likes of George Clooney and Owen Wilson are on the top of my desert island list, but right now it's Robert Pattinson, and if I can borrow my niece then I'll be first in the queue for New Moon when it opens this weekend.

Who's your unsuitable Mum Crush – and do you tell your partner or embarrass your kids? I'd love to know.

Hehe! Well, it was Rafa Nadal until my husband pointed out that I’m (just about) old enough to be his mother!

  2. A Modern Mother says:

Way too embarrased to admit to something like that, but I still like Colin Firth…

  3. Emma @ Not such a yummy mummy says:

I was about to say ‘Me, I love Zac Efron!’ until I realised that you didn’t mean the lovely Zac Braff from Scrubs. Oopsie. I have many inappropiate crushes but mine are pretty much about older men, none younger. Give me Jimmy Nail, Russ Abbott & Jasper Carrott over these young whippersnappers anyday! Saying that there is something about Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) these days….

  4. Rosie Scribble says:

Philip Schofield. It always has been. I’m quite open about it! I feel no shame. He is lovely x

  5. Nicola says:

Erm, I have to admit to liking Zac Efron – and I am scarily old enough to be his mother!!

My goodness Liz, you’ll have opened the flood gates here. Its probably everso slightly-ilegal but my mum crushes are Mika and Calvin Harris. And to be honest, I should also be too old to know who they are. My young crushes who’ve stayed with me and are more likely to be socially acceptable are Billy Bragg and Boris Becker.

  7. Vic @ glowstars.net says:

    Edward Cullen all the way!

  8. Sally Brockway says:

Not for me these young bucks. I like Raymond Blanc! I just can’t fancy a man who looks young enough to be my son. Surely it’s illegal?

I would have thought 40-something-mothers would be too old for crushes but I was dragged to the cinema today to see New Moon with a friend who is utterly infatuated with Robert Pattinson. She saw Twilight 13 times in the cinema and god only knows how many times at home on DVD. She has posters of him around the house and his picture on her computer, mobile and key-ring. Personally I can’t quite see what the fuss is all about. Having seen the movie today, I’d much rather spend the night with Jacob and his 6-pack…just don’t tell the husband…

I LOVE ZAC EFRON!!! he is only slighty younger than me so it’s not too bad is it? i have a full on mummy crush on him. I even drool at his calender and the girls love him in high school musical so i let them watch that whenever they want. He is gorgeous in 17again i saw that in the cinema with the hubby and i could stop smiling and swooning. I’ve got it bad and the pregnancy hormones aren’t helping, i’m off for a cold shower xxx

I’m still holding out for Johnny Depp. I figure I’ve got at least a *slim* chance. He likes girls who speak French, I speak French. He plays guitar, I can sort of play Duelling Banjoes. That’s all I’ve got but hey, you never know. In the meantime, my crushes on Wolverine and Aragorn/Strider sustain me. NOT jack whatever his name is or Viggo, I think they’re both way too clean cut to be in any way sexy… but random grungy rough-around-the-edges science fiction characters? Any day. Mm mm.

  12. Mocha Mama says:

With you on the whole Edward Cullen thing – having read the whole Twilight Saga. So I was completely struck down when watching Twilight (again and again). But I gotta tell ya, if you felt bad fancying 23yr old Rob how are you gonna cope when you see the Jacob Black character on screen. it’s not for the faint-hearted!

  13. Muddling Along Mummy says:

Robert Pattinson is very nicely put together but have you seen Merlin ? Arthur has been going to the gym between filming series 1 and 2 and has some rather pleasant shirt off moments … !

  14. Bev says:

My son was asking last week which famous person i would like to have married (based just on looks) if i wasn’t married to dad, when I mentioned a certain footballer (no it wasn’t david beckham) my son commented ‘but he’s got a gorgous wife’ What was he saying!!!!! Something about gordon ramsey though and at least i’m not old enough to be his mum!

  15. Ellen says:

Ohh Edward Cullen – would be lovely. I must confess I like Aaron Rude Boy Craze. He’d be a pain in the bum to live with but he would be lovely to have fling with (and breakfast the morning after would be sorted!)

  16. NotesRedShoes says:

Looking for an older vampire? Bill Compton from True Blood is my crush! http://notestoselfplustwo.blogspot.com/

  17. Natalie says:

    Puck from Glee. Nuff said.

  18. Kirsty says:

Kelly Jones from Stereophonics (at least he’s my age) Puck from Glee Steve Jones Strangely, none of my crushes look like my husband. I’m not going to look too deeply into that!
