We recently added the internet safety platform, SafetyMode and their smartphone, OtherPhone, to KidStart. They are experts when it comes to keeping your children safe online and they have recently launched a practical guide to help parents navigate online safety following the social media ban announcement.
SafetyMode was founded by entrepreneur George Bevis, founder of Tide, and smartphone safety specialist Bertie Aspinall, a University of Cambridge graduate who has spent more than six years developing technology designed to make smartphones safer for children and teenagers.
The launch of the guide comes as politicians seek to tackle growing concerns around children’s online safety through social media restrictions and age-based protections. While the proposed measures have been welcomed by many parents, SafetyMode believes families also need practical tools and guidance that can help protect children across the wider digital world.
Designed as a practical resource, the guide helps you understand some of the biggest online risks facing young people, including social media addiction, cyberbullying, pornography, online grooming, scams, misinformation, privacy concerns and the growing influence of artificial intelligence.
The guide also provides practical advice you can implement immediately, regardless of whether your child is getting their first smartphone or has been using one for years.
It also explores seven key areas of risk associated with smartphone use among children and teenagers, including mental health and development, social harm, sexual risks, financial exploitation, misinformation, privacy and academic impact.
