The KidStart Guide to Junior School

Key Stage 2 is a phase of primary school education for kids that are aged 7 to 11 in England and Wales. Here’s our guide to all that you need to do to set your child up for a successful time in Junior School and beyond. You can find out more about the KS2 curriculum on the government website here.

Bitesize chunks of revision from time to time can really help reinforce any areas that they’re not so confident with over the summer. Incentivise them to do a spot of revision where possible in the run up to September. With Beanstalk you can top-up their account every time they complete a task to help towards their future. We recommend Explore Learning and My Tutor, both are fab! Here’s where you can buy revision books for their KS2 SATS.

2

Try to keep in contact with your child’s teachers and really get to grips with the curriculum, ask questions and engage in meetings as much as possible, will make lending a helping hand with homework easier. There’s also tonnes of resources available online for example Twinkland BBC Bitesize.

3

Get them into the practice of meditating at the beginning and end of the day. The Calm app has a great playlist dedicated to kids and mindfulness. We’ve written a whole article dedicated to easing back to school nerves.

4

Renovate their home learning space. Make sure that they’ve got a quiet space at home to do their best work. We love these desk solutions from GLTC, plus get 5% back when you shop via KidStart.
